It also happens to be the Some Odd Girl Digi Day over at SNR Cad Universe! This is really exciting for us, and we want you to head to the SOG Group to participate in a couple challenges, and get some giveaways! A few people have asked me about what to do when they are just starting out with Copic markers.  I have a couple of tips below - the VERY basics for beginners.  Here are some dodgy pics I took too : )

Here is a shot of my whole Copic collection - you can tell I have run out of storage and need to figure something out! (Don't mind the other crap in the background! LOL)

When you are deciding what Copics to purchase, I always recommend getting 2 or 3 markers within the same colour group - just varying in shades of darkness.  The first letter will denote what colour family the marker belongs to (ie. G is green, and B is blue).  The number in the middle denotes the hue; so, that will give you your different colours within the family.  The last number (on the right), gives you the lightness/darkness of that colour (ranging from 0 to 9).  I have 3 pictures below of colours that I would start off with, so that you have enough to do some shading. You will notice the the letter and the middle number are the same.

My most used colours are the following:
Skin: E000, E51, E53
Hair: E25, E29 OR E31, E33, E37, E29 (Brown hair); 100, C9, C5, C3 (Black Hair). I don't often do blond or red, so I will leave those out : )
Blues: B00, B02, B05; BG13, BG15, BG18
Green: G21, G24, G28; G00, G05, G07
Red: R20, R24, R27
Orange: R02, R05, R08
Yellow: Y21, Y25
Brown: In addition to the hair above, I also like to use E71, E74, E77.

Here are some basic pics of me trying to blend - I chose to work with R20, R24, and R29.  I drew a circle with my Copic Multiliner onto a scrap of Neenah CS, and coloured it in with the lightest colour, R20.

Then, I took the next colour, R24, and added that to the left side of the circle in a curved shape - shadows on circles are not straight, they are curved. I am also imagining my light coming from the right side, which is why the darker areas will be on the left side.

Then, I took the darkest colour, R29, and added that to the farthest left.

I went back over it with my middle colour to blend the middle and the dark colours together, to get rid of the harsh line between them.  You can see that line has already blended, in comparison to the picture above.

Then, I went back over it with the lightest colour to blend the light and the middle colour together, to get rid of the harsh line between them.  I do a lot of layering - going back over the image with colours, until I have the effect I want.

Depending on the thickness of the cardstock, you may often see the marker soak through the back of the paper - this is not a bad thing, and often helps with the blending a bit.

Completely unrelated, here is my sneak peek for the upcoming release on June 15 - you are gonna die for these images!:

My card base is Whisper White.  Then, there is another layer of Whisper White, embossed with the Distressed Lines Cuttlebug folder, and that was matted with Almost Amethyst.

The next panel is an Almost Amethyst piece, which I sponged with Bashful Blue, Ballet Blue, and Brilliant Blue inks, then embossed with the same folder.  I matted that with a Basic Black piece and an Almost Amethyst piece.  I wrapped some Bashful Blue ribbon around that layer, and added 2 pearls from the Pretties Kit with Mini Glue Dots.

I printed MerMae onto Neenah Solar White CS, coloured her with Copics, and cut her out with Label Four Nesties.  For her little bubbles, I added some blue Liquid Pearls for some extra girlie shimmer!

TTS Showcase Monday: Amelia

It is Showcase Monday over at The Town Scrapper blog - happens every week!  During Showcase Mondays, certain members of the design team get to showcase any images/brands they like that are sold by TTS!  Well, for my creation, I decided to go with stamps made by The Greeting Farm.  This is the set called OA - Happy Day. (OA stands for Oliver and Amelia).  After you're done here, head over to the TTS blog and check out all the DT creations!

Here is my card:

My card base is Soft Sky.  The next layer is Basic Black, with a Whisper White mat.  I stamped the sentiment from the OA-Happy Day set onto the bottom of the black piece in Versamark, and embossed with Winter White EP.  I took one of my button packs from SU, added some Linen Thread to 4 of the buttons, and attached them around the sentiment with Mini Glue Dots.
The next panel is made from East Coast Prep DSP and More Mustard CS.  I tied a piece of Old Olive grosgrain ribbon around the bottom of that panel.

I stamped Amelia from the set onto Neenah Solar White CS with Versafine Onyx Black ink, and embossed her with Clear EP.  I coloured her in with Copics, cut her out, and mounted her on with Dimensionals.  She is quite the firey redhead, don't you think?

Some Odd Girl: A Mae Day

Hi All,

Thanks for stopping in today.  I have made a card for 3 challenges using the adorable A Mae Day image from Some Odd Girl!  BTW, there is a sketch challenge going on at the SOG Challenge blog, so you should head on over to submit your creation and try to win some great SOG prizes!

I also decided to participate in the Cupcake Craft challenge: to make a card that illustrated what summer means to me.  I love to spend time in my garden - I find it so fulfilling and relaxing, even though it is sometimes very hard work!

Here's my card:

My card base is Blue Bayou.  The next layer is some polka dot vellum from the SU Taste of Textiles DSP pack, matted with a Whisper White layer which was stamped with the SU Floral BG stamp in Sage Shadow ink.  I attached the vellum to that mat with some green brads.

The vertical strip is a piece of Bashful Blue textured CS, matted with Basic Black.  I used an adhesive border from the Summer Days Simply Scrappin' Kit to put down the middle.  The small rectangle is Marigold Morning CS matted with Basic Black.

I printed Mae onto Neenah Solar White CS, coloured her with Copics, and cut her out with Nesties.  I matted that with a Basic Black scallop rectangle.

Town Scrapper Challenge: Save A Tree

Over at The Town Scrapper blog, we have a Friday challenge to SAVE A TREE.  That means to use scraps, or minimal amount of cardstock.  Head on over to the blog to take a look!  We are also following a theme of Father's Day or masculine projects during the month of June, so you will see lots of men/boy cards this month.

My card used loose pieces of DSP that I needed to use up, and for the mats, I used pieces that had things punched out of them!  I thought it was a good way to re-use some of the CS that probably would have been thrown out.

Here is my card:

My card base is Blue Bayou, followed by a scrap rectangle of Walk in the Park DSP. That was matted with Basic Black and Whisper White pieces (the black had a big rectangle and a circle punched out of the middle, but I covered it with the layers).  Same thing with the next rectangle panel.  I wrapped some Baja Breeze stitched ribbon around that layer, and adhered it to the base.  I punched 3 stars out of Certainly Celery and More Mustard scraps, and stuck them to the ribbon.

The image is by Victoria Case for The Town Scrapper - isn't he darling?  I love his extra loose tie, and his oversized shoes!  I used PTI White CS, and coloured him with Copics, then cut him out, and mounted him on with Dimensionals.  The sentiment is also from TTS, and it was cut out with a 1" Circle punch, and mounted with a 1 1/4" Basic Black circle.  I then mounted the sentiment onto the middle star.

Some Odd Girl Style Challenge 3: A Sketch!

Welcome to another Style Challenge from the Some Odd Girl Challenge blog!  We had a fabulous release on June 1, and I thought I would play with one of the images!  This style challenge is another fantastic sketch!  Here it is:

I decided to play with Swimmie Mae, who is a new release - check out the SOG website for all the images!

My card base is Real Red, followed by a piece of East Coast Prep DSP, matted with Basic Black CS.  I rounded 2 of the corners, as well.  The horizontal panel is a yellow piece of the DSP, matted with black, wth 2 rounded corners.  I wrapped a piece of red polka dot ribbon around that base layer (which I got from Gina K).  For the square panel, it is a turquoise piece of the DSP, matted with Whisper White and Basic Black CS. 

I took some self-adhesive chipboad letters that I bought at Michael's, and stained them with yellow ink, and stuck them to the left side of the card.  The yellow flower (that kinda looks like a sun) is from Martha Stewart.

I printed Mae onto Bella's Bestest CS, coloured her with Copics, cut her out, and attached her with Dimensionals.  Don't you just love her toenails?  She is too cute!

InStyle Stamps Sketch #10: Baseball!

Thanks for joining me today - I am showing my project for the InStyle Stamps 10th Sketch Challenge!  Head on over to the ISS blog to see what the whole DT have created, and to submit your own creation to try to win some great stuff!  Here is the awesome sketch from Taylor:

Now, THAT is a fun sketch!

Here is what I came up with:

My card base is Whisper White, and I embossed the front with the mesh Cuttlebug folder.  I love embossing on white - it looks so crisp!  For the horizontal panel, I used a Creamy Caramel piece, embossed with the dots folder, and sponged around with Chocolate Chip ink.  I matted that onto a Basic Black layer, which was punched with my Martha Stewart fence edge punch.

At the bottom, I used a polka dotted piece of self-adhesive ribbon.  Then, I stamped a Kraftin' Kimmie sentiment onto Chocolate Chip CS in black ink, and punched it out with my Word Window punch.  I added a Creamy Caramel button with Linen Thread to the right of that.

For the main panel, the larger rectangle piece is Close to Cocoa CS, with the corners punched with the Ticket Corner punch.  I printed the adorable Alyssa onto PTI White CS, coloured her with Copics, and cut her out with Rectangle Nesties.  I added a larger Nestie black piece behind that, and both pieces were punched with the Ticket Corner Punch as well.

New Release Day at Some Odd Girl!

InStyle Stamps Blog Hop: Father's Day

Thanks for joining me today! Here is my card:

My card base is Blue Bayou , and I added a piece of Taste of Textiles specialty DSP, which was punched with an SU edge punch.  I added some self-adhesive nail heads onto that border.  Next, I used my Top Note die from SU, and cut one out of Basic Black CS, and one out of Whisper White CS, and I trimmed the white one.  I also embossed the white piece with the houndstooth Cuttlebug folder, but it ended up being mostly covered.

For the main image, I printed Father and Kid onto PTI White CS and coloured it with Copics.  I matted that with a piece of Basic Black, and stuck that layer to the Top Note layer.

Card Patterns 65: Some Odd Girl Dino

Hi All,

I decided to play along with the current sketch over on the Card Patterns blog: CP 65.  It was nice, and simple, and I really enjoyed it!  Here is the glimpse:

Here is my take on it:

I started off with a Kraft base.  I added 4 round buttons (tied with Linen Thread) to the corners with Mini Glue Dots (I think they are Rose Red colour).  The square at the back is a plain Whisper White piece, then there is a blue strip from the Bali Breeze DSP pack, which I distressed.  On top of that, there is a green piece of Bali Breeze DSP, which was also distressed.  I took a piece of Old Olive CS, and cut it with my Martha Stewart grass punch, and stuck it on top of the green square. The sentiment is from SU's Vintage Labels set - stamped in black ink onto a white scrap, and punched out with my Word Window punch, and adhered just below the white square. I attached another button to the right side of that.

I printed the Dino image from Some Odd Girl onto PTI White CS, coloured him with Copics, cut him out, and mounted him onto the grass.

I thought this would be a cute card to give to a kid - they love animals and bright, fun colours!

InStyle Stamps Bookmark

Hi all,

There are some really cute Chloe images at InStyle Stamps right now!  I decided to use Chloe Reading to make a bookmark - very fitting for that image!

I cut the base out of Rose Red CS using my scallop Long Rectangle Nesties.  The next layer is Raspberry Tart DSP. 

For the main panel, I printed Chloe onto PTI White CS, coloured her with Copics, and cut her out with Long Rectangle Nesties.  I added some sponged clouds using Bashful Blue ink.  I mounted that onto a Basic Black CS piece, then onto a scalloped Whisper White piece.  To the right of that, I added 3 Rose Red brads using my Mat Pack and Paper Piercer to line them up.  To the left, I added an Antique Brass clip (from Hodgepodge Hardware), with some pink gingham ribbon tied to it.

50th Anniversary Card, SU Style

Hi All,

My mom asked me to whip up an anniversary card for a 50th anniversary party she was attending.  I immediately thought of my Bride and Groom Specialty papers from Stampin' Up! 

My card base is Whisper White, then a layer of Basic Gray.  I added a layer of Groom Specialty DSP (the black, swirly one), with the bottom edge punched with a Martha Stewart edge punch, and a strip of white underneath.  Across that, I added some White Satin ribbon, with some self-adhesive ribbon across that.  I also added 3 silver brads to the left side of the panel.

I decorated the inside with the Groom DSP, Whisper White, and some more self-adhesive ribbon to match.

For the main panel, I took some Bride Specialty DSP (the swirly white one) and stamped the flowers from Upsy Daisy in Basic Gray ink.  Then, I stamped the sentiment from Whimsical Words in Versamark and embossed with silver EP.  I outlined the words with a white gel pen because the paper was so busy, I needed them to stand out a bit more.

InStyle Stamps: Colour Challenge

It's time again for another colour challenge over at the InStyle Stamps blog!  We had some lovely inspiration this time around, with a picture that Taylor chose for us from the decor8 Blog!  Here is the colour inspiration:

Now, I didn't go with that much white, but I did pull the blues, greens, and orange from the pic onto my card.  I chose the adorable Daydream Girl image - I am loving these A Day In The Life images!

Here goes:

My card base is Whisper White, followed by a piece of Tangerine Tango Patterns DSP, punched with an EK Success edge punch.  Along the bottom, I added a strip of Bermuda Bay CS, matted with a strip of Whisper White.  I then tied a bow around the base layer with some White Organdy ribbon. 

For the main image, I printed Daydream Girl onto PTI White CS, coloured it with Copics, and cut it out with Label Nesties.  I matted that onto a larger layer of Whisper White, cut with the Nesties.

A Day in the Life: BFF Lunch

I was playing with my new images from InStyle Stamps, and I HAD to use one of the images from their "A Day in the Life" series!  These are sooooo much fun to colour, and you can make such an eye-catching image!  I chose to work with BFF Lunch this time, but you will be seeing others!

Here goes:

My card base is Basic Gray, followed by Whisper White and Basic Black layers.  Then, there is a Marigold Morning layer, which was embossd with the Cuttlebug Forest Branches folder.  All of the layers were punched with the Ticket Corner punch.  I added a row of silver brads at the bottom of that, using my mat pack and paper piercer.

For the main image, I printed it onto PTI White CS and coloured it with Copics, then I matted that layer with a Basic Black layer.  Underneath all the corners, I added black and white photo corners to make a kind of "frame" for the image.  The white photo corners were also embossed with the same CB folder.

These images are tons of fun, and I definitely recommend heading over to the store to choose one or two that strike your fancy!

SOG Stash Challenge #3: 3 Patterned Papers

Hi All,

We have another great challenge going on at the Some Odd Girl Challenge blog!  This week, you are supposed to use at least 3 different patterned papers, from 3 different companies!  Now, that is a challenge! Especially not being able to use a bunch of different papers from the same paper pack!

Here we go:

My card base is Whisper White, followed by a piece of patterned paper from SEI's Poppy collection, matted with a Basic Black CS. It is a nice blue paper, with shiny silver designs cut into it.  For the smaller panel, it is a piece of patterned paper from Heidi Grace called Moonlight Meadow, matted with a piece of Basic Black, and a piece of Whisper White.  The DSP is a shimmery blue colour with white fuzzy designs on it - yummy!  I added some paper piercing around the edges of that.

For the horizontal panel, it is a piece of patterned paper from SU's Bride Specialty pack - I stamped that with a sentiment from SU's Whimsical Words in Versamark, and embossed with White EP.  It says "Follow Your Heart - It Knows The Way".  The strip was matted with Basic Black and then Whisper White CS.

I printed Heart Kaylee from SOG onto PTI White CS, coloured her with Copics, cut her out, and mounted her on with Dimensionals.  Kaylee is tooo cute!  Check out the SOG blog to see what the whole DT have done!

MTSC73: Kitty With Yarn

I am participating in Mercy's Tuesday Sketch Challenge #73 from this week.  She always makes such a great sketch, I sometimes feel the need to add a creation!  I have also used an adorable image from Some Odd Girl - it's the kitty with the ball of yarn...soooo cute!

Here is the sketch - it's a loooooong one:

OK, so my internet went down mid-post last night and I only got to post the sketch!  So, on with the actual card...

My card base is Basic Gray, followed by a piece of Regal Rose Prints DSP, with Jumbo Eyelets at each corner.  I cut a Basic Black strip out, and cut a "V" on the right end, and adhered it to the base.  For the next panel, I used Basic Gray Prints DSP, Basic Black CS, and Regal Rose.  For the circle, I used my Nesties with Basic Gray Prints DSP and Basic Black CS.

I printed the kitty onto PTI White CS, coloured him with Copics, and cut him out. I also added a gray patch over one eye with a dark Copic marker.

This was a really simple, fun card to make!

Over the Hump Day Blog Candy Giveaway: Father's Day

Welcome to another Hump Day Blog Candy Giveaway by InStyle Stamps!  Our theme for this month is Father's Day, and everyone is making a card or project for a father or father-figure.  I find that most people have trouble making cards for the man or boy in their life, so this is everyone's chance to crank out those male cards!  This month's prize: any 4 digital images from April's or May's releases!!! That is an awesome prize.

I decided to use "Richard" who is going to make an appearance at an upcoming release by ISS.

My card base is Ballet Blue.  That was followed by Basic Black, and Basic Gray, topped off with Brilliant Blue, which was embossed with my Argyle Cuttlebug folder.  I wrapped a piece of Soft Suede polka dot ribbon around that base layer.
Then, I chopped a rectangle of Whisper White, and Basic Black.  On the white piece, I sponged some Bashful Blue, Ballet Blue, and Brilliant Blue inks to make a gradiated colour.  Then, I embossed the white piece with the Argyle embossing folder. 
I cut a faux prize ribbon out of Marigold Morning CS, using a couple of strips and my 1 3/4" Circle Punch.  I stamped the father sentiment in Versamark on that, and embossed with black EP.  I added some self-adhesive nail heads along the tails of the ribbon too.

I printed Richard onto PTI White CS, coloured him with Copics, cut him out, and mounted him on the rectangle panel with Dimensionals.

Craft Critique: Mother's Day Carnival
