Happy 2nd Birthday Some Odd Girl!

Hi all,

Welcome to another fun post for this week with Some Odd Girl!  We had an amazing blog hop on Monday and Tuesday, and yesterday we found out the hop winner, and Kristy released some brand new clear stamps into the store, which were very Hush Hush!

Today to celebrate the 2nd birthday, the DT are showing you cards made with the brand new release!  Once again, these are clear stamps, not digi images.  I love getting these in the mail!!!

Here we go:

I am showing you Birthday Mae - she is so sweet, and you can find her in the store NOW!

My card base is More Mustard CS.  On top of that, I stamped Birthday Mae onto a large panel of Bella's Bestest Paper using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I coloured her in with Copics, and added some shading with Prismacolor Pencils and OMS.  I also added lots of glitter spots all around her.

I sponged around the panel with Wheat Versamagic ink, and matted it with black CS.

On the right side, I added a pice of patterned paper from the My Mind's Eye Lime Twist collection called Out of the Blue, matted with black CS.  I rounded 2 of the opposing corners with my punch as well.
On top of that, I used another piece of Bella's Bestest to stamp the accessory candles (that come with the image!), and coloured them with Copics and Prisma's, same as Mae.  I stamped the sentiment directly under that, which also comes with the image, and matted that whole piece onto More Mustard CS, and mounted them on with foam dots.

New Release: Grow

I'm sure you've seen the stellar release at Some Odd Girl from November 1st - there are no words to explain these images.  LOVE them.

Anyhow, us ODDies had a blog hop on October 31st and November 1st leading up to the release, and we each showed one of our projects.  I also showed a second project earlier this week, and today is my final project with the 3rd image!

I made tags/bookmarks with all of them, so here is Grow:

Like I said with the previous tags, I bought the tags at Michael's, and they are by Inkssentials.  I sponged this one with Peeled Paint distres ink around the edges.  The patterned paper is from the My Mind's Eye Lime Twist collection called Out of the Blue, and that was matted with black CS.  I cut a couple of clouds out of white felt with my Die-Namics die and glued them to the top.  I stamped the decorative corner and the sentiment (which both come with the image) in black ink, and I darkened them with a Sakura Glaze pen so they would stand out more. 

I stamped Grow onto Bella's Bestest Paper using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured her with Copics.  I cut her out with a thin white border around, then adhered her to some black CS and cut her out again with a black border.  I just needed her to stand out a bit more from that busy paper.

New Release: Believe

Hi All,

Well, hopefully you got to hop along for the new release with Some Odd Girl!  As you have seen over the past couple of days, Kristy has created these beautiful Nouveau Girls to add to the SOG family, and they are GORGEOUS!  They are photopolymer clear stamps, so this is not a digi release.
When we got these in the mail, we swooned!

Today, I'm showing you Believe.
Once again, I made a tag or bookmark with her.

My snowflake paper is from the Winter Mat Stack by DCWV, and it's glittery and fun!  I also punched the snowflake edge with my Martha Stewart edge punch, and the blue snowflake are from a Jolee's packet of stickers.

I stamped Believe in Memento Tuxedo black ink onto Bella's Bestest Paper, and coloured her with Copics.  I love all the folds and drapes in her dress - they are a colouring dream!  Although somewhat time-consuming.  But colouring is so relaxing, that you can't go wrong!

Nouveau Girls Blog Hop: Bliss

Welcome to our Blog Hop for the Nouveau Girls release at Some Odd Girl!  You should have arrived from Amy's blog - if you didn't, you might want to start at the beginning on the SOG blog!  You won't want to miss anything!

There has been alot of excitement building up to this event but not only do we have this new line to share with you, we also have some other fun, new things too!

Along the way you'll see some fabulous projects by our Odd Girls who have just had so much fun with this new line and have been bursting at the seams to share! We're bringing you 3 Clear Stamp designs that we hope will knock your socks off and you'll love for all sorts of projects.

Here's my project for today:

I made a cute little tag or bookmark for my project!  I bought these tags at Michael's and they are from Inkssentials.  I sponged some Walnut Stain distress ink around the tag first.  The bird cage paper and the polka dot paper are from the Authentique pack called Blissful (pure coincidence with the stamp name, I swear).  I stamped the sentiment that comes with the image on that paper using black ink.  The sparkly flower is from a Martha Stewart package of Chrysanthemum stickers, and the butterfly is also from Martha Stewart. 

I stamped Bliss onto Bella's Bestest Paper with Memento Tuxedo black ink, and coloured her with Copics.  I cut her out with a thin white border around and adhered her with foam dots.  Isn't she gorgeous??? Kristy has outdone herself with this line!!!

SOGgy Clear Release Blog Hop

Hi ODDies!

Welcome to the blog hop for our second release of clear stamps! Hope you are hopping along and having fun with us! The blog hop is happening this weekend up until Sunday, July 10 at 11:59 pm, EST, so you have lots of time to hop along, and check out our last image for the week!

The instructions for the hop are after the card, so read on!

Today, to finish things off, we are showing you the adorable Pinwheel Panda! We know you'll love him because it's impossible not to!

My card base is Kraft CS, followed by 2 triangles of Hawaii Papaya DSP with a black mat. I added a border across the bottom using felt Chocolate Chip ribbon, black CS, and Old Olive CS, punched with the Martha Stewart grass edge punch.
I stamped the sentiment from Stamping Bella onto white CS with black ink, and cut it out in a wonky shape.

I stamped the panda onto Bella's Bestest Paper with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and coloured him with Copics. For the green parts of the pinwheel, I actually paper pieced those using the Hawaii Papaya paper. I coloured the middle of the pinwheel with a Sakura Glaze pen for some sparkle, and I added some black pen to his nose and eyes.

ISS New Release!

We are previewing a bunch of new releases this week over on the InStyle Stamps blog!  Today, we get to show you a brand new image from the A Day in the Life Series: Mel!  Keep your eyes open for the images coming up in the store!

Here's my card:

The base is Basic Gray CS, with a Basic Black layer and a Whisper White mat.

I printed Mel onto PTI White CS and coloured her with Copics.  I matted her with Basic Black and Whisper White CS, and I added some Martha Stewart pearls to each corner.

She looks like she's being a vixen, doesn't she?  And that bed looks soooo comfy : )

A Delicious Release!!!

OK, so today is the day that Some Odd Girl is having their Hallowe'en release!  You won't believe all the adorable images that Kristy has dreamt up, but I know you're gonna love it!    We have been bursting at the seams to use these images, and we are so excited to share them with you now!
It is a really big release and us Odd Girls had such a blast playing with them!  You will definitely see lots of samples with this new release on Thursday on the SOG blog, as we have another challenge this week!  Here is the whole kit and caboodle:

New Release at Some Odd Girl!!!

These beauties were just released today over at the Some Odd Girl shop!  There is a fabulous selection here and all the images are adorable!  You will see them in action with DT samples on Thursday when we post this week`s challenge on the SOG blog.  But, in the meantime, you can go pick them up for yourself!

InStyle Stamps: Jack-O-Lanterns

Hi All,

I am showcasing a really fun image from InStyle Stamps today which was part of a huge release from Friday, the 16th!  It is called Fence O'Lanterns, and I think it is really spooky and fun!  You can also check out the whole slew of posts on the ISS blog to see DT cards for every single image that was released - it has been quite a week for us!

Here it is:

My card base is Tangerine Tango, followed by some shiny Rockabilly DSP with a Whisper White mat, and all of the corners are punch with a ticket corner punch.  The next large panel on the right is a skull piece from the same DSP pack, matted with Tangerine Tango, and corners punched.  I added 3 Mustard-coloured eyelets to the right side using my Crop-A-Dile (that thing sets eyelets like buttah!).  Now, it's hard to see (I should have chosen a different colour of CS), but I took a strip of black and a strip of white, and punched them with a Martha Stewart punch that has rats and tombstones on it, and attached it to the bottom of that panel, then tied some Tangerine Tango ribbon around it.

I printed the pumpkins onto PTI White CS, coloured them in with Copics, and matted that image onto a Basic Black piece.  They were REALLY fun to colour - I highly recommend it!

It also happens to be the Some Odd Girl Digi Day over at SNR Cad Universe! This is really exciting for us, and we want you to head to the SOG Group to participate in a couple challenges, and get some giveaways! Also, if you become a member of the group, you will get notices of challenges, new releases and freebies from Some Odd Girl!

A few people have asked me about what to do when they are just starting out with Copic markers.  I have a couple of tips below - the VERY basics for beginners.  Here are some dodgy pics I took too : )

Here is a shot of my whole Copic collection - you can tell I have run out of storage and need to figure something out! (Don't mind the other crap in the background! LOL)

When you are deciding what Copics to purchase, I always recommend getting 2 or 3 markers within the same colour group - just varying in shades of darkness.  The first letter will denote what colour family the marker belongs to (ie. G is green, and B is blue).  The number in the middle denotes the hue; so, that will give you your different colours within the family.  The last number (on the right), gives you the lightness/darkness of that colour (ranging from 0 to 9).  I have 3 pictures below of colours that I would start off with, so that you have enough to do some shading. You will notice the the letter and the middle number are the same.

My most used colours are the following:
Skin: E000, E51, E53
Hair: E25, E29 OR E31, E33, E37, E29 (Brown hair); 100, C9, C5, C3 (Black Hair). I don't often do blond or red, so I will leave those out : )
Blues: B00, B02, B05; BG13, BG15, BG18
Green: G21, G24, G28; G00, G05, G07
Red: R20, R24, R27
Orange: R02, R05, R08
Yellow: Y21, Y25
Brown: In addition to the hair above, I also like to use E71, E74, E77.

Here are some basic pics of me trying to blend - I chose to work with R20, R24, and R29.  I drew a circle with my Copic Multiliner onto a scrap of Neenah CS, and coloured it in with the lightest colour, R20.

Then, I took the next colour, R24, and added that to the left side of the circle in a curved shape - shadows on circles are not straight, they are curved. I am also imagining my light coming from the right side, which is why the darker areas will be on the left side.

Then, I took the darkest colour, R29, and added that to the farthest left.

I went back over it with my middle colour to blend the middle and the dark colours together, to get rid of the harsh line between them.  You can see that line has already blended, in comparison to the picture above.

Then, I went back over it with the lightest colour to blend the light and the middle colour together, to get rid of the harsh line between them.  I do a lot of layering - going back over the image with colours, until I have the effect I want.

Depending on the thickness of the cardstock, you may often see the marker soak through the back of the paper - this is not a bad thing, and often helps with the blending a bit.

Completely unrelated, here is my sneak peek for the upcoming release on June 15 - you are gonna die for these images!:

My card base is Whisper White.  Then, there is another layer of Whisper White, embossed with the Distressed Lines Cuttlebug folder, and that was matted with Almost Amethyst.

The next panel is an Almost Amethyst piece, which I sponged with Bashful Blue, Ballet Blue, and Brilliant Blue inks, then embossed with the same folder.  I matted that with a Basic Black piece and an Almost Amethyst piece.  I wrapped some Bashful Blue ribbon around that layer, and added 2 pearls from the Pretties Kit with Mini Glue Dots.

I printed MerMae onto Neenah Solar White CS, coloured her with Copics, and cut her out with Label Four Nesties.  For her little bubbles, I added some blue Liquid Pearls for some extra girlie shimmer!
